Force Crag Mine Open Days 2017

The remaining 2017 Open Days are:
  • Saturday 6 May
  • Saturday 10 June
  • Wednesday 26 July
  • Saturday 9 September
Force Crag Mine, near Keswick, was the last mineral mine worked in the Lake District, production ceasing in 1990. The National Trust offer a guided tour to explore the processing mill and surrounding remains. The tour takes about 1 hour, all tickets are 6 and transport up to the site is provided.

Postgraduate Diploma in The Geology of Yorkshire and Northern England

A part-time, online Postgraduate Diploma from the University of York. The programme is aimed at individuals with an interest in geology looking to gain a regional geological understanding with which to interpret larger-scale Earth processes and structures.

The programme is part-time, taught online over two years for flexibility of learning. It is interactive, where students will be part of an active online community. Each Autumn term includes a mandatory five day residential week in York, including practical sessions and field trips as well as the opportunity to meet fellow students and staff, engage in discussion and share knowledge of geology.

Discovering the World: Earth Sciences

Royal Holloway, University of London is holding a free event in Manchester for Year 11 and 12 students and their teachers. The day aims to provide students with a taste of what it is like to study Geography, Earth Sciences (Geology) or Politics and International Relations at University level.
